Shavout

No Jew should be hungry on Shavout!

I always remember this story when shavout comes around; A few years ago when my my dear friends were a young family of 4 in Israel  and they worked very hard. Even while the wife was well into her 3rd pregnancy and she continued to work hard in order to provide for their growing family. Yet, even though they worked so hard at the end of the month there was literally hardly anything to eat. The breaking point was Chag Hashavout; a chag filled with flowers and summery dressed little girls and boys giggling in the streets, cheesecake, cheesy quiches, and salads, and the scent of summer & happiness in the air...that same holiday they spent broken without the money to buy cheese for cheesecake, or veggies for that summer salad, or a new dress for the baby...yes, unfortunately while everyone was rejoicing they were living in their own personal struggle.

Years later now that things are better BH" she says "This can never happen to a Jew during Chag" and every Shavout we remember this story as we give out food cards so that other struggling families children could be like all the others running home and giggling as they look forward to their yom tov meal!

Thousands of families are living just like this family! In Israel the struggle is real! Poverty is happening! 1 in every 3 children is living in hunger! In Israel there is nowhere else to turn for actual groceries when one is in need! WE ARE THE ONLY OPTION and we need YOU to help us make a change! IT CANNOT HAPPEN WITH OUT YOU!

Let's ensure that needy families in Israel have the opportunity to rejoice during this beautiful holiday.

There are thousands of additional families waiting for aid, but we need your help to make that happen!

I wish to help my brethren in Israel with pre-paid Food Cards for the holiday of Chag Hashavuot for:

Meet our volunteers and professionals making all of this happen in Israel!

Each and every month throughout the year, the Jewish Assistance & Relief (JAR) provides close to 2,000 "Food Cards" for needy Israeli families with a minimum value of $80 to as much as $600, and for the holidays, the numbers go up to 10,000 families with assistance of at least $80 to help with the added holiday expenses.

Highlights of the Food Card Program:

Recipients are chosen by local Ministry of Welfare offices based financial needs. Many families have work, but are struggling to make ends meet; some lost their jobs, family sickness, economic hardships caused by the war on terror, death, etc.

Families receive pre-paid food debit cards accepted throughout Israel at any of the 400 Branches of Supersol, Blue Square National Supermarket, Machsanei HaShuk, Victory, Yeinot Beitan, and Shuk Mehadrin chain stores,

Our Food Cards are pre-programmed so that families can only purchase basic food and household products, and excludes any purchases of cigarettes, alcohol, clothing, cosmetics, electronics, or gourmet foods.

Food Cards are issued for six months, and sometimes extended for another six months if there are extenuating circumstances, giving families time to adapt to their new economic situation and learn to live within their means.

Recipient families are overseen by their local welfare officers with additional oversight by the Jewish Assistance Fund, the Israeli arm of JAR.

Cards are issued throughout the year, as well as during a war or at holidays.

Recipients come  from all walks of life and from throughout Israel with absolutely no discrimination, and include: orphans, sin

gle parent families, holocaust survivors, the elderly, soldiers of the IDF, and special needs children, etc.

Food Cards are programmed with different amounts based on donor specifications and recipient needs.

Our administrative budget in Israel is covered by the rebates we receive from the national retailers so that 100% of your donation goes directly to feed needy families. There is NO warehouse and logistical fees spent to cover packaging and distribution costs, as families receive their cards in the mail and then go shop like all other citizens.

In the merit of your generous donation, may you and your loved ones enjoy a Happy Shavuot!

!חג שמח לכל עם ישראל
