English Resource Library

As a result of the recent Second Lebanon War, the Global Jewish Assistance & Relief Network (GJARN) undertook a project to restore a bomb shelter in Kiryat Shmonah and to help set it up as an English resource library for children in the neighborhood. There was no other cultural or academic center in this neighborhood which had consistently suffered from Hezbulah missile attacks from Southern Lebanon.

The request for this project came from a volunteer and single mother and English teacher, Mrs. Revalyn Faba-Sack and is dedicated in the memory of Jade Bar Shalom ob”m, who started the project and succumbed to cancer during the war (summer 2006).

This unique project was supported by several charities, Foundations and private individuals, including:

  • Livnot funded in part by the NY Jewish Federation, who helped paint and restore the shelter and who also provided much of the furniture,
  • Books4Israel who donated all the books in the shelter/library.
  • Microsoft Israel who donated close to $10,000 of educational software,
  • Leah Pess who is sponsoring one full year of internet service
  • GJARN for sponsoring the computers, scanner, fax and other equipment.

The center is run by Mrs. Sack and several volunteers
